Greenhouse number one was deserted, except for the professor. The last class had ended an hour and a half ago. Since then, Eris' clothes had become disheveled and he had a streak of dirt across his cheek. The clothes were due to the petite blonde Slytherin who had just left with a contented smirk on his face. The dirt was due to a "disagreement" with one of the plants.
Since Eris had taken over the teaching position, there had been an increase in temperamental plants used in the classes. The type that made students pay attention, otherwise they would walk away with a couple of bruises and bite marks.
The vampire made an attempt to make himself more presentable. He adjusted his belt, which was more for decoration than to actually hold up his leather pants. They fit snugly enough that they didn't need it. He then straightened the collar on his shirt-length, sleeveless version of a cheongsam made of emerald colored brocade. His chin-length black hair remained securely in a ponytail at the nape of his neck. He failed to notice the smudge of dirt due to his lack of mirror.
Eris began to feel the familiar sensation of hunger, but he could still go a while without feeding. He was rapidly growing tired of blood from a bag, but that was one of the conditions in his contract. True, he had already broken it severely with Len, but he didn't want to risk asking another student to open a vein for him.

Kori entered the green house silently, she had come back to do some extra work for a project of hers. A quick Hi to Eris but was unsure if he heard her and got going.
She was picking some leaves from the plants, when standing Kori's could just be seen behind an assortment of green. Already the small bag tied around her waist was filling with sweet smelling aromas that would later be used to air her room and attract wildlife. Or repel it as the case my be. Kori still hadn't found a prove mix that worked, the horses back home seemed to like the smell but nothing similar could be found in muggle plants.
The idea being that Kori wanted to make a smell that would attract animals to mate, help the more endangered ones. Ambitious but hopefully time well spent.
She looked up to Eris a few times before carrying on with what she was doing, she was grateful that she could stay longer so didn't want to wast her time with talking, not that she did much of it anyway. When the bag was full Kori pulled the draws strings to close the bag and keep the smells in and looked up again.
Looking up again she walked forward slightly to the Professor while holding onto the bag in one hand. "Are you ok?" she asked slightly concerned but not sure what she would do if he wasn't, Kori had never been good with emergences, she liked to think that she be calm and responsible but thought it be unlikely. Animals she could cope with. People, not so much.

Eris felt a twinge of annoyance at the girl's presence. She had gone to work without bothering to ask the professor's permission, and if she had arrived only minutes earlier she would have walked in on he and Len in a rather compromising position. As the teen's sire, Eris had been letting him take most of his feedings from Eris himself. Part of it was because he felt that a newly turned vampire shouldn't be forced to drink reheated blood from a bag like Eris did, and feeding on his classmates wasn't really an option for Len. Mainly, it was because the two just enjoyed it that way.
As usual, the feeding hadn't exactly been a chaste bite on the wrist or neck. Which was why the professor had appeared so disheveled. Bite marks were present on his neck, but concealed by the high collar of his shirt. By now, they would only be red spots on his naturally tan flesh. If they had been caused by just about anything other than another vampire's teeth or nails, the wound would have completely healed almost instantly.
"Yes..." he replied to Kori's question. He raised an eyebrow, facial expression matching his tone that suggested he didn't know why she was even asking. "Mind sharing what, exactly, you intend to do with those?" A pointed look was sent in the direction of the other's bag.

Blinking Kori took a step back unsure why she asked. "Just..." she didn't continued, the professor didn't seem to like his students very much which made her wonder why he even took the job, but it probably best not to think about it. Kori glanced to the bag and back up again quickly, bitting her lip so hard she almost drew blood. She really needed to get out more. "I, I was talking to Hadgrid" she replied to Eris not quite looking him directly in the eyes as he towered above her where as she bearly scraped 5ft 6, and that was when she was wearing boots.
"He said certain animals like some smells, like these." she took a breath. "He said that if I picked some from Herbology it probably be ok, I thought he would of told you." Kori said getting quieter and quieter as she ended the sentence. At this point Kori was looking quite flustered and tightened her grip on her robe. "I wanted, to...make a similar smell to the one that animal make when there ready to breed... To help more endangered ones want to mate"
Kori stopped speaking and gave a little sigh of relief because of it, her mouth felt dry and slightly itchy, she didn't think she had spoken that much for ages. Not to another human anyway, well vampire. "Sorry" she added even quieter. But if this did work she could send it to her parents, she missed them. They were in Romania. Still. But a sent that might make the Longhorn mate would help the breeding program there.

While Eris had no problem with students coming to him for that sort of thing, he didn't like that this one hadn't bothered to ask before going to work. For all she knew, Eris could have been growing the plants she was taking for a specific purpose. Considering that almost all of the specimens in Hogwarts' greenhouses were magical in nature, some were too dangerous for him to allow students to handle without proper instruction first, and some weren't just a matter of growing back next year. Most students knew better than to touch the plants there without the professor's instruction. Eris currently had a short list of students he would allow in the greenhouse unsupervised, Len Andriesen and Neville Longbottom being two of the few on that list.
The vampire could smell Kori's nervousness. He let out a small sigh. "That's nice, but you should have asked first either way. You should know by now that there are quite a few dangerous specimens here, and shouldn't be wandering around picking things unless you can identify every plant in this greenhouse." Since Eris had taken over as Herbology professor, students were even more aware of the dangerous pants, considering that he had often had classes handle species such as fanged geraniums, venomous tentacula and whomping willow saplings. "And even if you are that well versed in the subject of Herbology, it's rather impolite to take things without asking first."
Eris turned and wandered over to a plant whose large orange blossom was larger than a human head. His fingertips caressed the petals of it. Other than the size, it appeared mundane, but the flower would eat virtually any living thing that wasn't too large that got that close to it. If Eris had been human and had simply wandered up and started stroking it like that, it would have attempted to eat his hand. However, it ignored him. There weren't many things that would try to eat a vampire.
"You completely lack people skills, you know," he stated without turning to face the Gryffindor. "The whole too-shy-for-people thing gets old really fast." He briefly wondered what the Sorting Hat had seen in this girl to put her in Gryffindor, since she seemed afraid to even talk to him. But Eris had never really understood shy people.

"Sorry" Kori said again thinking a sixth year like herself really should have known better, instead of getting to eager with her own projects. Although Kori new none of the plates were dangerous, if they were she wouldn't use them in a practice batch. Then again, Kori was no stranger to danger. She lived with a dragon egg in her room before while it hatched. "I know I should have checked but I just wanted to help my parents with the breeding program in Romania, so they can come home quicker" Kori looked away not sure why she missed them so much, they obviously didn't feel the same why or they would send an owl with a letter. Not a hard thing to do really.
Frowning slightly at the Professors words first, Kori then nodded knowing that it was true. Social reject number one standing before him in all glory, Kori had no idea why she disliked people so much. "People let you down" she said aloud with a sigh, not realizing at first but then went a light shade of red. "Animals don't" she added but not sure why, just getting angry sensation that she hardly felt. "Animals don't laugh at you, they don't judge you on looks, they don't bully you into thing and they don't commit suicide just because things got hard"
Throughout the speech which Kori thought sounded like a dreary TV shows she hated so much, she remained quiet but had a real tone of anger, resentment to her voice. She never told anyone about her boyfriend before which was one of the things the anger was directed from, well she told Hermione who she made swear that what they said never left the Gryiffendor girl's dorm room.

It was nearing dinnertime, and instead of joining his friends and housemates at their common room, Blaise Zabini was striding through the corridors, treading on any underclassmen careless enough to cross his path. In his hands he carried a small pot, and often eyed it with contempt while crossing the castle's grounds to the greenhouses, it being the reason of his obvious irritation.
Greenhouse number one's door was ajar, and Blaise knocked before pushing it open. Eris Halloway, the Herbology teacher, and a girl he recognized to be Kori Carey were the only current occupants of the room, and he stepped in, pushing a lock of curly hair away from his eyes.
The Slytherin raised his eyebrows at Kori when he walked past her. The girl seemed to be rather uncomfortable around the vampire. He had seen the Gryffindor around and had taken her by a lonesome person, since he had yet to see her speaking to a classmate. She was most definitely a shy person. Either way, he didn't care; in Blaise's opinion, while living in a castle full of teenagers, you could only be lonely if you chose to be so.
His gaze drifted from her to Eris, and he gave the teacher a nod. "Professor Halloway," he began, "I was hoping you could be of some help." That said, he held up the parcel, revealing the little vivacious orange-colored blossom that laid within. It appeared to have taken a liking for the boy's fingertips and kept on nibbling at them. Blaise cast it a murderous glare.
"Someone decided I was in need of a carnivore pet plant, and gave me this." Annoyance was clear in his tone, and the plant, as if noticing so, immediately nipped at his thumb. After a short hiss, Blaise questioned, "What I am supposed to do with it?"

Eris gave Kori a blank expression, considering commenting on how much of a cliched 'emo' she was sounding right now. "Of course animals judge you. Judging people is animal instinct. It helps you survive, both literally and figuratively. They may not do those other things, but that's because they aren't capable of the same complex thought processes."
The vampire walked over to his desk, pulling something out from behind it. It was a cage containing several small mice. He opened it and quickly withdrew one, moving swiftly without giving the rodent a chance to run away frightfully. He returned to the large blossom and dropped the tiny creature on it, which was quickly swallowed by the flower. He then stroked the stamen of it the way one would scratch a dog's chin.
"Human interaction isn't supposed to be easy. You can't just expect people to like you when you give them no reason to do so. It takes actual effort, not just sitting around brooding about failed relationships in the past."
Eris managed to look less annoyed when Blaise entered. Turning his attention to the Slytherin, he grinned when Blaise revealed the younger counterpart of the plant he had just fed. He ran a finger over the much smaller flower, which would have bitten Blaise if he had attempted the same action.
"Was it Artemis?" he asked, sounding amused. He'd seen the two boys together often enough, and it seemed like something the younger one would do. "Feed it flies or crickets every six hours or so, and it will stop trying to eat your fingers. When it gets larger, you'll need to feed it larger animals like mice." The way he spoke of it, it sounded more like he was describing the care of a snake or lizard than a flower.
