 Assessment of Danger (open)

The rain was falling harder than before, as if it were some sort of magic. Magic. Funny, it was something that was in her blood, but yet so foreign at the same time. What made her so different? What was it about her that made her stand out from the rest? She had yet to figure that out, and it bothered her slightly. She never felt worthy of her abilities, whatever that meant. The woman in question wasn't even sure she knew where she was going. She had spent so many months in solitude, that she knew if she didn't get out soon, she'd died of pure isolation.

Elysia Hortensia, the witch from Spain, traveled alone most days. Today was no different. As much as she liked the rain, for some reason it wasn't sitting too well with her this afternoon. It seemed out of place. Distant even. It seemed...ordinary. There was something so simple and Muggle about rain. She thought for a minute about a spell that would stop the rain, but thought against it almost as quickly. That would go against everything she believed in regards of her powers. She gripped her wand inside her coat pocket as if by habit. Times they were a changin'.

Elysia was walking, unconsciously, towards Hogsmeade. It wasn't a place she frequented often. She was never too fond of public places, oddly enough. However, something had sparkled her fancy. She had read a rather interesting story in The Daily Prophet that made her curious. After all, though not too many people knew it, she was a reporter. It was her job to know and to find out. Things had seemed painfully quiet as of late. She was determined to get on the inside. Her disastrous first attempt had failed miserably. She was eager to try once more. Hopefully, she'd encounter someone a little more adept than Draco Malfoy, the coward.

It was probably for the best that things didn't work out the first time. It gave her time to think things through. Maybe the Prophet was right. Maybe she wasn't as good as she thought she was. Nevertheless, she wasn't going to stop until it killed her. Or until He got to her first. She wasn't afraid of Voldemort like so many others. There was something about the man that she even admired, though she wouldn't allow herself to admit to it. The point was, he had a vision and was willing to see it through, even if it was completely wrong on so many basis.

Elysia felt for Voldemort, if only slightly. The poor man knew nothing about love nor did he care to want to know. From what she had gathered through "various" means, no one ever loved him and he never loved. It all made sense then why he hated what those like Dumbledore stood for. She didn't know where she belonged in the bigger scheme of things. She had been cautious in where she was heading. The war was brewing and raging even more than she knew. She preferred to keep out of those things, mostly.

Elysia by now had paid little attention to the falling rain. It was now just background music to the craziness that was going on in her mind. There were so many puzzles and mysterious to solve, yet she felt that she was only at the beginning of this long maze. She was trying to take it all in at the same time, and it was slowly eating at her. She was heading nowhere in particular and didn't even care if there were very little people in sight. She had other things on her mind mostly. Through all of this, she thought very little about Harry Potter. The name left a bad taste in her mouth. She had to admit, she was slightly jealous and afraid of the boy. There was something about him that made her uneasy, and she couldn't quite explain it.

She kept walking, thinking about Muggles and Voldemort, Hogwarts and The Daily Prophet. But most importantly, she was thinking about where she fit in. The world was big, and she wasn't even a minor player in the direction of it. That, more than anything else, disturbed her. She wanted the glory and fame, but couldn't figure out how to attain it. Little did she know that she was walking right into the line of fire.

Alice grumbled as she pushed her soaking wet hair from her eyes, usually pin straight hair was beginning to curl and twist about and it bothered her. Not that she was conceited or anything nor was she really all that vain about her apperance, when there where better things to be vain about. Schoolwork for instance, wasn't one of them and she was skipping classes as it was to come get away from all the bustle of Hogwarts.

For a moment she remembered when she was young, before she'd gotten pulled into the Wizarding world and smiled. Ah, simplicity, those were the days where she was with her mother and things were good, not great but good. Alice shook her head and brought herself back to the present, trugging through a puddle as water splashed up the leg of her jeans. "Damn," she mumbled as water soaked in through her shoes and socks.

She tilted her head and gazed around. Hogsmade was rather.. empty today. But of course it was raining and classes where going on at Hogwarts. In all though, there were a few students who had also skipped class and she smiled in greeting to them but not slowing her pace. She held her jacket tight around her and shivered, cold as usual. Her mind began to drift because she'd come with no purpose and no money.

Alice yawned and closed her eyes for a moment as she walked though the streets. She opened her eyes just in time to see the person she was about to run into. The woman was or seemed to be of Spanish decent. "'Oof.. Sorry," she mumbled as she ran into the woman. "Wasn't watching my way," she said.

The rain had by now changed to just merely a soft patter around her. It was nice background music. She actually seemed to take a minute and stop, her black hair matted down on her head. It was a cold rain, and should have made her feel slightly uncomfortable, but it didn't. Even though there were times when it annoyed her, she never really minded getting wet. It was one of the few things untouched by magic. It made her still feel connected to the rest of the world. She loved being part of a unique community, but there were times when its isolation made her feel separate and not equal, oddly.

Elysia continued walking, not really minding where she was going or who she might see. Most of her friends weren't stupid enough to be seen in broad daylight. She wasn't expecting anyone and didn't think anyone would be expecting to see her. It would explain why she was surprised when a mild push from behind startled her slightly. Elysia turned around to see a young girl before her. Elysia raised an eyebrow and looked around cautiously for a minute before shrugging it off. "It's okay..." She trailed off quite ready to turn back around and be on her way.

It was then that something struck her as rather odd. She took another look at the young girl and asked, "Shouldn't you be in school?" She did look young enough for Hogwarts and wondered why anyone would skip out on it. True, times were much different than they had been when she was in school, but she was never one to skip or miss any lessons. It just wasn't her thing. The girl looked just as wet as could be and Elysia thought for a minute about conjuring a spell that would make both of them much dryer. Maybe later. She thought to herself.

Alice smiled slightly as she moved her hair from her eyes again, her hair dripping water onto her shoulders. "Me, in school. Well, yes, I should be. But I'm not so," she trailed off, her eyes holding a mischievous glimmer as she shifted her weight on her feet. She felt her shoes give a disgusting squish as she moved and wrinkled her nose up at the feeling.

She pushed her hair from her eyes, reminding herself to cut her bangs when she returned to Hogwarts. "Anyway, I'm not in school, skipping apparently. So, what brings you to Hogsmead on this wet, rainy day," she asked lightly, smirking a little and looking oddly impish as if the girl had spent way to much time around them to be able to mimic their expressions and body language.

Slipping her hands into her pockets she watched the woman in front of her. Hogwarts graduate, no doubt. But who is she and what does she do. She pondered this to herself as her icy blue eyes glimmered like water in the sunlight. "If you don't mind me asking.. Who are you," she asked, in the politest way she knew how seeing as she didn't practice being all that polite.

Elysia hesitated for a second. She found it odd that a schoolgirl would want to know who she was...unless of course she was more than just a schoolgirl. "Does it really matter who I am? If I told you, would that change anything?" She asked with a hint of suspicion. It was hard in this day in age to trust anyone, which was quite sad, but because of who she was and what she did for a living, she had to always be on the lookout. There was always someone she had angered who was eager to finish her off. She was always mindful of that.

She thought for a moment. It only just registered to her that the girl asked her why she was at Hogsmeade. Truth was, she didn't really know. It was just one of the few places she could go without making a scene really. Some of the places she wanted to go were just simply too obvious to be right now. Places like wherever Voldemort and his Death Eaters were hiding or where the Order was. That was where she wanted to be. That was where she needed to be, but she couldn't quite figure out how to get in on the action. That was something she was still working on, it seemed.

It was then that she realized that the rain had by now soaked both of them completely and it was beyond bearable. She said, "Auferopluvia," and the rain around the girls seemed to disappear. It was a spell that she invented herself long ago, after not being able to find any other spell to work to her liking. She gave the girl a smirk, adding, "There aren't many places to go anymore. This is just one of them." She felt it was a true statement.

Alice tilted her head as the woman seemed to avoid her question. "No, I suppose not. I just kinda could use something other than woman to call you.." She didn't quite understand why the woman was so suspicious of her, she was but a schoolgirl. "Because that would be slightly weird for me," she mumbled. She shrugged and yawned. "But if you don't want to tell me. Don't tell me." It wasn't that much of a problem for her just made her curious.

She yawned again and wrapped her arms around herself, holding her jacket closed and keeping herself warmer. The girl had stayed up late last night, another reason she'd skipped classes for the day. She would've fallen asleep in the middle of a lesson, probably would've started snoring or said something in her sleep to embarrass herself, which she'd rather not do.

She quirked a brow as the woman said a spell she didn't recognize, perhaps it was made up. Regardless she was thankful when the rain seemed to stop, at least around them. "There aren't," she asked, slipping her hands back into her pockets and shaking her head a few times and getting her hair more natural because it had actually managed to start bothering her. Vanity, eh. Something she'd not seen herself as, vain.

Elysia laughed. "I have no problem being referred to as 'woman'." She looked down at her wand, checking it over. It was a rather unusual wand, even she had to admit. She hadn't seen anyone else with anything like it. Then again, she'd been living in England for quite some time. She had gotten her wand in Spain. Not too many people in Spain had a wand remotely close to hers. There were times when she wondered what it meant, if anything. She gave the girl in front of her a look and said, "My name's Elysia. You?"

She was ready for the weather to get better, though even she knew that was a longshot. To her, it always seemed rainy and cloudy, even during the summertime. It was nothing like her home country. There were times when she wanted to go back, but she knew she'd be more of a target there than here, so she stayed. "What year are you anyway? You just saw me use one of my own spells. I came up with that one while I was in Hogwarts. Have you created any?" She asked nonchalantly, looking around the whole time.

The rain had by now stopped. The sun was trying to peak its head out of the clouds, but was rather unsuccessful. Elysia was tired of standing about. She wasn't sure how long they had been just standing in one place, but one thing was for sure, she had to find somewhere to sit. "Don't know about you, but my legs are killing me." She looked around once more, unsure of where she wanted to rest.
