It had been a long day. Elysia made it a point, as was usual, to keep to herself. It wasn't safe walking around alone these days. Anything was bound to happen, but even more so if you were a Hortensia, like herself. There were times when she felt trapped. Trapped by her name, her parents, her lineage, but most strangely, her magical abilities. She should have been proud to be part of something special, and most times she would have been, but lately, with the constant fear, she found herself burdened by what she was born with. She only had herself to blame, naturally. After all, she was the one who had made life extremely hard for herself. If she had simply kept her mouth shut and wrote what she was supposed to, she'd at least know that she'd have a secure job, if nothing else.
In the grand scheme of things, none of that mattered. Unless you pledge allegiance to Lord Voldemort, you were marked. Even though she knew many a Death Eater, she could never become one. It just wasn't in her blood. Elysia had a tip that something quite serious was about to happen at the Ministry, and she was going to make it a point to be there and report on it when it happened. She was tired of being left out. She had run into Cornelius Fudge, former Minister of Magic on several occasions, but he seemed just as much out of the loop as she and wouldn't tell her anything, much to her disappointment. So, she found herself in one of the buildings she both loathed and admired.
There was something about the Ministry that intrigued her. She had always taken a liking to the Department of Mysteries, then again who hadn't. When she heard about Harry Potter and a bunch of kids venturing into the Room, it took her by surprise. That was her destination, though getting past everyone was going to be a trip. Unlike Harry, Elysia possessed no Invisible Cloak. Luckily for her, she was extremely proficient in charms and spells, most notably love charms. She was going to have to rely on her spells for the most part. She walked into the building, after having gone through the tunnel. No one seemed to pay her any mind at first. She took in a deep breath and walked past the fountain with the words, "Magic is Might" written. She hadn't been in the building in so long it was a wonder she even knew where she was heading. The truth was, she had no idea. She looked around for a directory and was surprised when it stared her back in the face. "Bingo." Her next stop was the Department of Mysteries on Level 9.

Dacian's nose was buried in a manila folder as he entered the Ministry, subsequently not paying much attention to where he was going. He had walked the same path past the numerous fireplaces and phone booths, then around the fountain and over to the elevator which he would then take to the third floor ever since he had graduated from Hogwarts, so he had the route memorized to the point that he could have walked it in his sleep. However, this didn't account for unexpected obstacles like people standing in his path.
The contents of the folder were work-related, and he doubted that any of his colleagues would question him spending this much time focusing on them. He had a lot to catch up on, after all. But that wasn't the whole reason why he apparently couldn't even set his work down long enough to travel from his apartment to his office (which was really more of a cubicle, but "office" sounded more professional).
Only those who knew him especially well would take note of Dacian's tendency to through himself into his work whenever he was particularly upset, nervous, or generally discontent. By doing so, he was able to spend most of the time thinking about something other than whatever was making him feel that way. He tried to ignore it until it managed to resolve itself, despite the fact that more often than not it didn't work out that way.
His current feelings of anxiety stemmed from his grandmother visiting him a couple days ago. He was beginning to suspect that she had some sort of sixth sense about when she could make him the most uncomfortable, considering that she managed to time her visit so that she was dropping by that day after Dacian had met Zevi. In other words, the day after he had slept with a fey and used his powers to "feed" on someone to their full extent. Either act individually was enough to get him disowned if his family ever found out. He didn't actually regret doing it, but he still felt guilty about hiding such things from his family.
Ever since then, Dacian had been spending so much time on casework that he was beginning to neglect basic things like food and sleep. So it wasn't really much of a surprise when he accidentally collided with the reporter standing near the directory. "Oh Merlin, I'm sorry!" he nervously squeaked while kneeling down to collect the folder he had dropped and the papers that fell out of it. He glanced up at the woman, hoping he hadn't done damage to anything other than his paperwork.

Elysia stood at the directory for an unnaturally long period of time. She wanted to make sure she had every single floor memorized, should she need to venture anywhere else. She cautiously looked around and when she felt as though no one was watching she grabbed into her purse an unusual wand. Elysia murmured something inaudible as she pointed her wand at the directory. She felt confident that she would be able to remember where she was going from here on out.
She got out a quill and began scribbling something on an old piece of parchment. There was definitely something rather unusual about the Ministry as of late. It was as if someone was making it a point to hide information. Seeing as though Voldemort took over the Ministry, she wasn't entirely surprised. She folded the parchment, put it in her jean pocket and threw her quill into her purse. She had all the information she needed. She knew that it would be near impossible to cast an invisibility charm in the Ministry. She was going to need someone else to help her.
She quickly put her wand back in her purse and turned around, only to bump into someone. Passerby stopped momentarily, then quickly resumed their destinations. Elysia picked her purse and looked almost as flustered as the young man in front of her. She looked around, wondering if he was lost. She wouldn't have taken him as anything other than a clerical worker. "Sorry.." She quickly took a look at some of the papers that still lay on the ground. She made a mental note. It just might be my lucky day. She thought to herself.
She helped the young man with his papers and asked, rather cunningly, "Say, do by chance work here? I'm rather lost and could use some...help." She wasn't sure what the young man was about, but was rather confident that she could take him on should the opportunity arise. Hopefully, he wouldn't ask many questions. She had no problem using whatever means to get to the bottom of a story, though she wouldn't resort to lies and begging. She handed the young man back his papers rather reluctantly.

Once the papers were returned to their folder, Dacian took in the appearance of the woman he had collided with. She seemed familiar, but he couldn't recall where he had seen her before. If he remembered that he recognized her because she was a reporter, he would have been more wary of speaking to her, be he didn't currently recall that detail.
Tucking the folder under his arm and straightening his posture, he listened to her question before replying, "Yeah, I'm an Auror." His free hand absently ran through his sleep-mussed hair, realizing for the first time today that it wasn't as well-groomed as he would have preferred.
He almost missed how the woman seemed to wish to hold on to his papers rather than simply returning them without first taking a look at what they were regarding, but even when he had only woken up about half an hour ago, he was still sharp enough to take note of it. You didn't get through Auror training if you weren't observant about that sort of thing.
He took a moment to consider the request for assistance. "What exactly do you need help with?" he responded, not wanting to agree to anything until he knew why she was here. Dacian had been especially paranoid about that sort of thing lately, and he doubted than anyone would need to be explained why.

Elysia remained quiet for a moment. She didn't ask if he were an Auror or not. She could go about this numerous ways. She didn't know if he was in a position to lead her to where she needed to be, but she was going to at least try and take a chance. Now that she knew that he was an Auror, she made a mental note to keep on her toes at all times. After all, they make a living dealing with scum. She looked back at the directory and pointed, saying simply, "Well, I see here it says something about the Department of Mysteries." She was trying her hardest to sound innocent. She made it a point not to say anything more than that, otherwise he'd know what she was up to immediately and kick her out of the building. That was the last thing she needed right now.
She leaned in closer and whispered, "I don't know about you, but someone's gotta do something." She looked around and continued, "I mean, the whole wizarding community is scared out of their minds, man. What are you doing about it? From the looks of it, nothing, pretending as though nothing's happened." She shook her head and folded her arms. He was going to be her ticket into that room. If she could just play her cards right, then she'd be in that room finding out what she needed to know in no time. However, she knew that it wasn't going to be easy convincing someone to break the rules for her. If he knew who she was, he would have left her alone some time ago.
The last thing she wanted was to have to try and attempt to break in alone. She needed help from the inside. If little kids can do it, so can I. She thought to herself.

Dacian raised an eyebrow in a dubious manner at the mention of the Department of Mysteries. He knew that a lot of people were naturally curious about that sort of thing, but he was wary of people who genuinely desired to attempt to enter it. And as someone who had actually been inside the Department of Mysteries before, he decided it was best to be cautious with his words around Elysia. "What about the Department of Mysteries...?"
Hazel eyes widened ever-so-slightly at what she whispered. "If you know about that, then you should know that it isn't exactly wise to be discussing that sort of thing here, of all places." Anyone attentive enough who worked at the Ministry was aware that Voldemort's flunkies were amongst them, they just couldn't always tell for certain who was one of them. Anyone attentive enough that wasn't in denial, anyway.
The younger one knit his eyebrows and crossed his arms over his chest, careful so that the folder didn't drop again. "You've known me all of, what, a minute, and you think you can tell that much about me?" he replied, keeping his voice as low as it could be in such a crowded room and still be heard by Elysia. "For all you know, I could even work for you-know-who," he added with a roll of his eyes.
The accusation of not doing anything about it was rather absurd to Dacian, considering that he was a member of the Order of the Phoenix. Not only was he working overtime to do something about it, but he had already almost gotten himself killed dueling a Death Eater.

Elysia's previously non-existent smile widened. She nodded her head in simple delight. This was completely out of character for her normally, but she couldn't mask her happiness at the sudden turn of events. She kept her voice quite low. "True, true...you might very well be working for You-Know-Who." She could already tell that he was not, however, but she'd simply leave it at that. The very point that he was even still holding a conversation with her proved as much. Most Death Eaters, at least the smart ones that she talked to, would never have entertained her for so long.
However, he seemed to want to know why she was interested in the Department of Mysteries. She wasn't going to fully answer him of course. "Well, I'm just like many who find the very nature of the room intriguing." Though that was true, it wasn't her reason for actually taking the time to come all the way to the Ministry and attempt to get into the room. If he knew her real reason, he more than likely would have flat out refused. The more she beat around the bush, the more inclined he might be to help her out later. There was a lot of hoping involved.
Elysia opened her mouth to say something else when a disturbance forced her to turn around. She squinted her eyes to see up ahead but could only make out the screams. This might be the diversion she needed. After all, this guy was an Auror right? He'd have to go and investigate. Unfortunately for Elysia, the disturbance was coming straight to where she was standing. It appeared as though there were several different wizards and witches running about shouting, "Mudbloods!" or something of the like. She soon found herself on the floor, as several dozens of people were now trying to escape.
The whole time that she was lying on the floor, Elysia began to wonder if finding out what happened behind closed doors was really worth it.

Dacian's dubious expression increased as Elysia's smile widened. He didn't see what was making her so happy, and the knowledge that something was pleasing her more than it probably should be made him even more wary of her. "Well, I'm not," he muttered. "But my point is that I could be, and you wouldn't know any better. You know hardly anything about me; you don't even know my blood status or species or name, so you're not exactly in a position to be throwing around accusations about me doing nothing about this."
Checking his watch, Dacian idly wondered whether this woman was going to make him late to work... despite being only two floors away from his destination. "And... what? You think that being curious is reason to allow just anyone in there?" If she thought that playing innocent was going to get her in there, then she must have underestimated Dacian... and Ministry employees in general, for that matter.
The Auror's eyes traveled in the same direction as Elysia's. "What in the bloody hell do they think they're doing... here, in the middle of the day..." he muttered, apparently to himself and not expecting a response from anyone. His wand was in his hand faster than most people's eyes could follow, and rather than hitting the floor like Elysia or heading for the exit, he quickly made his way to stand atop a bench to try and see over the crowd. Dacian may have been taller than the reporter, but that wasn't saying much.
It wasn't until several moments later that Dacian actually noticed Elysia's position. Although he had been conversing with her less than a minute prior, his attention had been solely focused on the disturbance when she hit the floor. "You okay?" he asked without actually abandoning his position on the bench, having to raise his voice to be heard.

Elysia was pushed to the floor by several wizards and witches in panic mode. She was struggling for her own wand, but in between several feet pounding around and even occasionally on her own body, she didn't have the time nor concentration to locate it. She couldn't remember where she needed to go to get to the Department of Mysteries, and at that moment, her desire to want to enter the room was becoming a far-fledgling memory. There was blood on the side of her face. She finally was able to bring herself up to her knees. She wiped the blood from her face and was finally able to find her wand. She sighed in relief and murmured a spell that instantly removed the wound.
She quickly stood up to hear the cause of the commotion. A loud, powerful voice boomed and yelled, "You can run, but we will find you. The Dark Lord knows all. He will not accept those who are inferior. It is time to cleanse the wizarding world of filth that has for so long consumed our community." These words scared Elysia deeply. She herself was a pureblood, but she was more concerned with the fact that she was an immigrant. Her records were still in Spain. Not too many of the modern English generations knew of her last name. She ignored the young man momentarily as her thoughts suddenly dwelled on her family. They were on the run because of Voldemort. The anger that she had tried for so long to quiet was finally erupting.
She said hastily, "Yeah, I'm fine." She began to recount as many spells as she could. There was still mad panic around, and she didn't particularly care if he actually even heard her. She didn't care about her original goal anymore. Things really were different now. She felt confident that she could defend herself in a flash and resumed her conversation with the young man, making sure to try and move a little closer to him so he could better hear her. She raised her voice and said, "Look, I'm sure you know what's going on. Someone's gotta control these people. Where's all your Auror friends? These people need protection, and not to mention order. Look!" She pointed to where the elevator would have been. Many people, in their panic to escape, blew the hatch open. People were Apparating all over the place.
Elysia was going to stay around for as long as she could before leaving herself. "Uh...I think you better get out of the way." There was what appeared to be a figure dressed in a black cloak approaching both Elysia and the young man. She drew her wand closer and sighed. The war had officially begun.
